Continuous Cafe Closure Around Sungai Long
KAJANG: Cafés around Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman Sungai Long campus had been reported shutting down continuously in the past few months.
Students voiced out their opinion on that the possible reason of cafe closure recently.
Tense competition and pricey food and beverages
Denice Lai Vin Yan, 21, student from Corporate Communication course, have the some thoughts on this situation. “The competitions within the cafés are too strong,” she said.
Peggie Su Mian Ling, 22, speaks out her opinion. “I think there are too many cafés in this area and besides, students have to spend their money wisely to avoid overspending,” she said.
“There are too many cafés in this area and the food and beverages are pricey,” said Grace Ng Wing Yee, 23.
Ang Jean Eng, 22, voiced out her opinion on this issue. “The main customers around here are the students and it is just too pricey for a student,” she said.
From unofficial sources, there are currently 6 cafés are still operating around the campus area and their prices range are from RM 11.90 to RM 30, for main dishes and RM 6 to RM 15 for beverages.
Other than cafe goers, students of no special interest in cafe also noticed the closure of cafe around the campus.
Ivan Yap Weng Hian, 25, currently studying in Early Childhood Educations, said that he had noticed this situation. “Although I am not really a café goer, but I did noticed a few of the cafés had stopped their business, like 2 months ago perhaps?” he said.
Hong Ming Zhou, 22, Chemical Engineering, also noticed about the closing of cafés around the campus. “I do noticed about that but it is not really a matter to me because I seldom go to café,” he added.
From most of the informations collected, the main reason for them to go to a café is the environment and food. Only one or two from the interviewees are going for the coffee.
