20s Online Entertainment News Consumption Behavior
This survey is focusing on 20’s who read entertainment news through internet. The objective of doing this survey is to determine the relationship between the time of 20’s spend on internet daily and the time of 20’s to read news through internet. To investigate the online news consumption behaviour of 20’s in Malaysia.
124 respondents are includes in the survey on Malaysian online news consumption behaviour, there are 34 male and 90 females.
Among the 124 respondents, 49 of them are 21 years old. 22 years old of respondents have 34 persons. 22 of the respondents are 20 years old. 9 of them are 23 years old and 5 of the respondents are 24 years old. From 25 to 29 years old merely 5 peoples among the 124 respondents.
Most of the respondents are student, where 109 peoples among 124 respondents. 11 of the respondents are now employed and only 4 of them currently did not have job.
The highest number of respondents which is 42 of them answered that they spent more than 4 hours, within 6 hours on internet daily. 28 of the respondents spend 10 hours above on internet everyday. 27 of respondents spend time on internet daily more than 2 hours but within 4 hours. The results of people who spend on internet more than 6 hours, within 8 hours are 24 people out of 124 respondents.
Most of the respondents prefer entertainment news from China, Taiwan or Hong Kong. There are 59 of the interviewees claimed that they are paying more attention on K-Pop/J-Pop entertainment news. 51 of the respondents love to read Hollywood news. 43 of the Malaysian respondents prefer local or Singapore news. There are two interviewees choose “others” and mentioned Europe gaming entertainment news and world news as their answer.
More than 60% of interviewees access to online news from social media. There are 19 of them have installed news application in their mobile phone. Only 12 of the respondents read the news through the news website. 8 out of 124 respondents claimed that access to the online news by using search engine. The least number of respondents which is 7 people have subscribed to the news website.
56 of the respondents read news through internet daily. There are 28 and 27 of the respondents claimed that read news more than twice a day and weekly. 2 out of 124 respondents answered that they read news through internet sometimes.
Based on the pie chart above, most of the respondents access through the online news during their lunch period which has a total of 50 of them. 33 of them browse through the online news during the evening. 22 of the respondents would spend their morning to go through the online news. Only 22 of them would rather spend time accessing the online news during the midnight.
The survey has shown that 76 of the respondents read the entertainment news online because they think that the news is interesting to them. A total of 61 of them read online entertainment news because the particular topic gives them interest. Besides that, 44 of them said they read the news because they are interested to the particular celebrities. Another 44 respondents, said that they read the news online because of its popularity matter among peers. 15 of them said it is recommendation by friends. There are some minorities who gave a reason of online news is easy in accessibility or just somehow appears in their eyesight that catches their attention.
A total of 96 respondents said they would prefer the entertainment news to be the latest information of celebrity’s or movie’s activities. 44 of them would prefer the news about award giving. 35 of them would prefer gossip news. Another 31 of them are more likely to go for scandal news. Some minorities would prefer political, gaming and random news as their entertainment news update.
Based on the bar chart shown above, only 24 respondent who are always respond toward the entertainment online news. 47 of them sometimes would respond to the news. 41 of them rarely interact with the online news. Another 12 of them would never respond to the entertainment news.
Based on the bar chart, 103 of the respondents would like the online news as an interaction. 25 of them would tag the news to their friends. 31 respondents would share the online news as an interaction. Only 13 of them would leave their comment on the entertainment online news.
Based on the statistics of the survey, 74 respondents would share the entertainment news because they think it was funny. A total of 60 of them shares the news because of interest towards the celebrities. 11 of them would share the matter if it is scandal news. 19 respondents would share the news if it is about award giving results. Another 31 of them would share because the news is recently popular.
