Diarrhea After Eating… Mixed Rice?

KAJANG: University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) student suspected mixed rice (economy rice) caused food poisoning in Sungai Long.


Food poisoning after ate mixed rice

Ong Tee Hong, 24, Media and Creative Studies student claimed that he got food poisoning about two months ago after ate his dinner with egg, soy sauce meat and abalone mushroom in Sungai Long at 7pm which is the time of the mixed rice restaurant going to close soon.

After two hours, he then got diarrhea. After 9 hours, he started vomit with blood. Doctor had diagnosed him as symptoms of food poisoning.

Ong suspect the foods caused poisoning from the restaurant beside Lucky Laundry and Yoong Guan. He mentioned that he ate at restaurant before and the tastes of food are as usual.

He heard before that his friend had food poisoning after eat at that particular restaurant. Finally, Ong get fully recover in one week. He had stopped eating mixed rice.

“The way they serve food. They just put there, they even won’t know flies died inside. Compare to mee, once you order they only start cook it,” Ong said.

He suggested rice mixed restaurant to keep their food clean and hygienic.

John Kek, 42, owner of Mr. B Mixed Rice denied customers getting food poison is always restaurant’s responsible on all occasion. He mentioned that some people have weak immune system and stomach or incorrect combination food eating that cause food poisoning.

“No one is perfect, I want to be responsible to what I do,” he said.

Kek said he will make compensation for treatment to the customers if they claimed this restaurant’s food causes poisoning.

According to Kek, he doesn’t mix the freshly cooked food and leftover food together into one plate because it might cause food spoilage. Although he hired only two people for washing plates, he has a bulk of plates provided. So it won’t get insufficient of plates supply and cause just passable washing plate.

He packs the takeaway food by separate different food in different plastic bag for the customers to prevent food spoilage problem. For the overage food, he donates to “The Exit Centre Drugs Rehabilitation Centre”.

The food of Mr. B Mixed Rice is tastier

Lu Yong Zhen, 22, Graphic Design and Multimedia student eats at Mr. B Mixed Rice once a week.

She prefers to eat mixed rice while in the Sungai Long because it is more convenient, healthier and the price is more affordable since she always eats at outside. For Lu, she thinks the food of this restaurant is tastier.

She doesn’t get food poisoning before but she had heard a lot of people got poisoning in Sungai Long.

She disagrees that avoid eat is mixed rice can reduce the possibility of getting food poisoning. She claimed that the most salient factor causes food poisoning occurs often is the seller has not keep the cleanliness properly. They may not clean everything thoroughly when they are rush to prepare food.


According to the Health Facts by Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia of 2016, food poisoning records the most cases among food and waterborne diseases which remarked incidence rate of 47.34 per 100,000 populations in 2015.
