Women Feel Safer To Watch Porn On Phones
KAJANG: Malaysian women watch pornography on smartphones over privacy and security.
In a recent survey Pornhub had revealed that 71% of the women viewer access its site from smartphones while there are only 55% of men viewer access the site with smartphones. Among the 71% of women viewer, most of them are millenials aged between 18 and 34. The survey also revealed that Malaysian women rank 7th most likely to access porn on mobile devices.
Most of the interviewee stated that smartphones give them more privacy. One of the interviewees, Ong Lai Teng, a 22 year old admin staff confessed that, if she uses her deskstop to watch pornography, she felt more expose as her deskstop were place in living room, and she might not have enough time to shut down the screen if someone suddenly goes home. She said, “I don't want to be seen watching porn, especially my parents."
However, student Lim Mei Ying from Segi College University also mentioned that using a smartphone to watch porn is more convenient for her so she doesn’t need to have the trouble to switch on her laptop just to watch porn. Besides, Lim said, “I can delete history and format my phone easily, so that no one will know I watch porn.”
According to Low Kar Yan, a 27 year old accountant, it is easier to get caught by her parents if she uses laptop to watch porn. When she uses phone to watch porn, she can watch it anytime and anywhere. Phone can react fast enough for her to move away from videos with sexual content. She said “The screen is so small (as compared to dedskstop or laptops), people can barely see what I am watching.” while smiling embarrassingly.
Meanwhile, Wong Wei Yee a sales coordinator stated that she feels more secured when using phones to watch porn. She said “I think computer is more complicated, so I feel like it is easier to be attacked by viruses when I visit porn site.”
Although in this century people are more open minded and acceptant, women in our country are still very conservative and shy about sexual topics. Most of the interviewees stated that they think it is perfectly normal for women to watch porn too, but they prefers not to let anyone knows they watch porn.
According to Pornhub’s survey, 66% of Malaysian men use phone to visit the porn sites too. This concludes that, people are shifting their online viewing patterns from laptops or computers to smartphones, as the screens are getting bigger and bigger nowadays.
Researchers suggested “those who view more sexual visual stimuli are likely to have a higher sexual drive” in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. Peter Tatchell, a British broadcaster had claimed that porn can be educative, liberating, empowering, fulfilling and socially beneficial in an article.
