Workout Is Not The Only Key To Fitness
KAJANG: It has become a myth to many that exercising is the only choice to get the desire results. But, the actual fact is that the road to fitness does not rely only on working out.
In order to gain muscle or lose weight, we should be focusing on the proper workout form, suitable food intake, lifestyle and sleeping habit.
Andrew Wee Wei Siong, 23, certified fitness nutrition specialist and freelance personal trainer at Lean Fitness & Gym said that fitness comes from a combination of proper exercise and other aspects such as dieting and lifestyle routine.
Besides that, he also mentioned that he saw a lot of common mistakes that beginners make when it comes to workout. Common mistakes such as bad form of exercising, wrong food intake, relying on supplements and no warm-ups. “That’s the reason why some are not getting what they want,” he said.
Andrew has been training for four years and he admitted that he himself also made similar mistakes before during his first year.
“This is a common situation because making mistakes are one of the stages that every beginner will go through,” he described. He mentioned that they are a few elements that beginners need to focus in order to reach their ideal body.
“The major contribution to fitness still falls into knowing what you eat,” Andrew said. He supported his statement by saying that the formula to a nice body figure is the combination of 80 per cent of dieting and 20 per cent of exercising.
He explained that it is essential to calculate the calories intake required for your body according to your BMI, activity level and goal.
Beginners always eat whatever they like and think that exercise can burn everything that they consumed but it will not be able to fully burn out if the calories intake is too high.
Furthermore, sufficient sleep will also affect the results in fitness. “It is crucial to sleep at least seven to eight hours per day, if you want your muscles to recover and absorb nutrients efficiently,” Andrew added.
Moreover, beginner should also be aware of their body type. “If beginners are familiar with their body type, eventually they will know which area of exercise and diet they should be focusing on,” he explained.
Proteins are also essential to muscle development as well as fat burning. Protein contains amino acids which can be found mainly in food source but there are several supplements that could provide such nutrient as well. Andrew said by consuming enough protein, it will prevent the muscles from burning off and help develops body tissue.
Are Supplements Necessary?
Supplements are widely used nowadays, especially by those who are determined to get a nice physique.
There are multiple forms of supplements such as protein powder, creatine, fat burner, and Branched-chained amino acid (BCAA).
Common questions among beginners of which supplement are suitable for them. However, is it necessary for such investment?
Andrew said supplement are perfectly fine to consume, but some people are relying so much on the supplements that they neglected the intake of main food source which is unhealthy for the body.
“All the supplements are just an extra to fill up and enhance the insufficient needs of nutrients,” he explained.
Andrew said supplements are chosen based on what one’s goals is.
