College Students Unsatisfied
KAJANG: The facilities of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) are said to have unsatisfactory reviews from the student and complains are triggered due to the inadequate outcomes.
After the merge of all Klang Valley campuses into the latest Sungai Long campus in 2015, statistic have shown that the campus is catering a total of 9000 students and 800 staff. However, the facilities provided are limited and insufficient for the student.
UTAR Quantity Survey student, Tan Huay Ping, 22, said there are thousands of student in UTAR but there are only 4 ATM machine provided. “There are times where all 4 of the ATM machine are either out of service or cash,” Tan added.
Tan said she thinks that ATM machine should also be placed in the KB block which is the new building. “This will prevent long queues which can cause the area to be overcrowded,” she added.
UTAR Business and Property Management student, Kevin Goh Chee Keong, 20, said he is frustrated with the elevator system and the lack of sport centre. According to Kevin, UTAR has a poor elevator system. Kevin also mentioned that the system is resulting the congested situation in UTAR.
“With thousands of people in UTAR, we have to accommodate with 6 elevators,” Kevin said. Kevin also said there are situations where some of the elevators are out of service.
Kevin said the sports centre in UTAR are very limited. “We have to go other areas in order to find a sport complex,” he said. Kevin also said it is difficult for those who does not have their own transport. “This is the reason why UTAR student are getting inactive in their lifestyle,” he added.
Student Representative Council, Campus Wide Representative, Yap Yuan Ping, 21, said the Head of Department are aware of the issues of unsatisfactory facilities and possible action will be taken. He said the placement of the ATM machines at KB block new building are being proposed to the Head of Department and hope actions will be taken.
“For the time being, if students encountered any faulty facilities, please do report to the board of student councils,” he added. As for the elevator, UTAR has already implemented system to it to prevent congestion.
He said the elevator at the front are programmed to go only to even number floors which means second floor, Fourth floor, Sixth floor and so on. He added the elevator at the back are programmed to go only odd number floors.
Yap said UTAR cannot do much about the limited sports complex given. “UTAR does not have enough space to build a sport complex,” Yap said. He said the solution will be by joining sport clubs in UTAR. Yap also mentioned the respective club committee will find transport for student.
